Why is Delta-9 THC Better Than Delta-8 THC for Health?
Delta 9 and Delta 8 are both variants of THC, with a slight difference in the positioning of the carbon atom. In delta 8 THC, the double bond is on the 8th carbon atom, while in delta 9 THC, the double bond is at carbon number 9.
Due to this difference, the effects and characteristics of both compounds differ drastically. Both of the compounds are psychoactive and produce euphoric effects. Delta 9 THC is illegal on the federal level in the USA, in contrast to delta-8 THC, which is legal.
Nevertheless, both produce the same effects as those of Marijuana, and hence, the use of delta-8 THC should be avoided for the following reasons;
Delta-8 THC, as well as delta-9 THC, is derived from the cannabis plant. The cannabis plant contains delta-9 THC in higher concentrations compared to delta-8, which is present in limited amounts. The glands of the Marijuana plant secret resin, which contains THC.
The hemp plant contains delta-8 compounds in a very small amount making it extremely difficult to extract. Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol forms a major portion of the naturally occurring cannabis plant. There is a chemical method as well to convert CBD into delta-8 THC that most manufacturers use. This process uses different chemicals for conversion and also results in the formation of some byproducts.
Moreover, the extraction process takes a long time and follows many unhygienic extraction practices. This process turns out to be quite expensive. Hence, manufacturers avoid double testing to screen the harmful elements.
Eventually, delta-8 THC synthesized in the lab becomes a health hazard for others because of the presence of chemical pollutants and toxic byproducts.
In 2018, the Farmer Bill announced the compounds with THC of more than 0.3% as illegal. At the federal level, THC-delta-8 is legal. The variant that was mentioned in the legislation was delta-9 THC.
Many manufacturers found refuge in the wording of the law and started manufacturing products containing delta-8 THC instead of delta-9 because of their legal status.
Although the delta-8 variant has the same detrimental effects as delta-9, it found its use in concentrations above safe-human levels. Many manufacturers use more than 0.3% concentrations of THC-delta-8, to as high as 18% or more, in their products. Such products can be deemed unsafe for humans because of their psychoactive and euphoric effects.
Delta-8 THC produces essentially the same effects as Delta-9 THC with slightly lesser potency. They are one-quarter or one-third times less potent compared to Delta-9. It instantly brings deep relaxation to the brain, pain relief, feelings of euphoria, and decreased functions of the brain.
Their effects are milder than delta-9 but fall in the psychedelic category. It can also induce additional effects of the byproducts it contains that lead to potential health risks.
The products that contain safe amounts of THC compounds can be used to alleviate pain, combat depression, and induce sleep. Furthermore, they also help stabilize mood by interacting with the endocannabinoid system affecting the level of serotonin that induces happiness and pleasant effects in the body.
To get desired effects of THC-containing CBD products, always make sure that the product is tested and that the manufacturers have a medical review board to approve their products.
The use of Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol is a potential health threat because of its side effects and numerous health risks. Products that contain THC in trace amounts, e.g., within the legal limit of 0.3%, can be used for medical purposes.
Any amount of THC, delta-9 or delta-8, greater than that will cause health risks. Most common health risks caused by delta-8 THC include but are not limited to:

In addition to these, the edible products of this compound found in gummies, cakes, lollipops, etc., also cause adverse health effects of headaches and lack of proper metabolism.
Their use is strictly prohibited in children and pets, as their immune system is not developed enough to combat the adverse effects of Delta-8 THC. One pediatric case even reported death after the use of delta-8-THC product.
There are many marketing tactics that some manufacturers use to conceit the malpractice of using dangerously high concentrations of delta-8 THC. Such products get their consumers high and have intoxicating effects. But, most of these products are labeled as ‘hemp’ products without mentioning THC concentrations present in the product.
Misleading labels do not give any trigger warning to the people who look for non-psychotic effects. Moreover, the FDA does not approve the marketing of delta-8-THC products for medical and therapeutic purposes. Thus, misleading labels and using Delta-8-THC for therapeutic purposes is also a violation of the law.
After weighing all the points mentioned above, it would be safe to say that the use of THC compounds, either delta-8 or delta-9, should be avoided for health benefits. They should only be used in medical emergencies after consultation with your physician.
