- Why do you want to work for TCS?
Tell me about yourself
When an interviewer asks you to “tell me about yourself,” they are looking for a snapshot of who you are as a professional. You’ll want to focus on your career journey and highlight your achievements, rather than giving a personal overview.
To craft an effective answer, start by thinking about the key points you want to communicate. Then, organize your response into three parts: your current role, your previous roles, and your education and skills.
Here’s an example of how you might answer this question:
I am currently a software engineer at TCS. I have five years of experience in the technology industry, and I’m passionate about working with new technologies and solving complex problems. In my previous roles, I’ve gained experience in project management, requirements gathering, and system design. My education includes a degree in computer science from Duke University.

How do you envision yourself five years from now?
In a recent interview, a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) HR representative asked me to envision myself five years from now. “What are your plans for the future?” she inquired. “How do you see yourself evolving professionally?”
I had never really thought about it before, but I responded with something like, “Well, I see myself continuing to work as a software developer. Maybe I’ll be a team lead or a project manager by then.”
The HR rep seemed pleased with my answer and said that TCS could give me the opportunity to grow in those directions if I were interested. It was an interesting question and one that I’m still thinking about.
Where do I see myself in 5 years? That’s a difficult question to answer because a lot can change in 5 years.
Who inspired you to be an engineer?
There are many people who inspire engineers to become what they are. One such person is Nikola Tesla. He was born in 1856 and was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist. Some of his inventions include the alternating current (AC) motor, the Tesla coil, and the Tesla turbine. He is also known for his work on the design of the modern electricity supply system. What are the competitors of TCS globally and in India?
In the global arena, TCS’s competitors include the likes of IBM, Accenture, and Infosys. In India, TCS’s key competitor is Infosys. While TCS has a larger market share in India than Infosys, Infosys is growing at a much faster rate. This can be attributed to the fact that Infosys has been more aggressive in its pricing and has made a concerted effort to focus on new growth areas such as cloud computing and big data.
The competitors of TCS globally are IBM, Accenture, and Capgemini. These companies have a similar size, revenue, and employee count as TCS. In India, the main competition for TCS is Infosys and Wipro. These companies are also similarly sized and have a significant market share in India.
